You would have trouble finding anything in this third and final Downton outing that lives up to the “big” of its title. The stakes could hardly be lower – “How are you going with Mary’s plan to pluck the chalets?” – While a third spell of the Act village never really feels like the culmination of fifteen years of narration. Admittedly, his direct predecessor found more pathos in the departure of the late Dame Maggie Smith. This does not mean that fans of the long -standing soap of the period will be more willing. Elsewhere, Ms. Patmore (Lesley Nicol) approaches retirement, Mr. Carson (Jim Carter) regrets retirement, Uncle Harold (Paul Giamatti) wasted the heirs of Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) and Lady Merton (Penelope Wilton) serpent with the county of Sir Hector.
