“Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.” – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

Some love stories make you laugh. Some love stories make you cry. Some love stories make you want this passion, or appreciate the one you have. This is all the above.

Bob Rueland (David Duchovny) is a prosperous architect and his wife, Elizabeth (Joly Richardson), is a doctor who works in a zoo, where she looks specifically after Sydney, the gorilla. She speaks during a dinner, hoping to obtain enough donations to build Sydney and her family a new larger habitat. Bob promises that he will do it with or without additional funding, as long as she promises him a trip to Italy. She agrees, but unfortunately it never happens.

On the way back after dinner, Bob and Elizabeth are in a car accident. The one where Elizabeth is not recovered. This sends Bob in a descending spiral. He never goes out, except for work, he lets his house turn into a large trash can with take -out containers everywhere, and he has trouble with his dog, Mel, who only eats when Elizabeth is at home.

Enter Grace Briggs (Minnie Driver). She has a heart disease that she inherited from her mother, and the only way to survive is with a new heart. With the knowledge of anyone, the heart it receives is that of Elizabeth. After her surgery, she wrote a thank you letter to have sent anonymously to the donor’s family, and finally did so well after being healed.

After a year, Bob realizes that he needs to get out of his funk and finally agrees to go out with his friend, Charlie (David Alan Grier) at an Irish / Italian restaurant called O’Reilly’s wherere, by coincidence, Grace works as a waitress. This is where they meet for the first time. They feel an instant connection and it is not long after when Bob asks him to go out.

His mood is instantly lifted. He is happy and all around has fun again. He drags a lot with Grace and his family, which consists of his grandfather Marty (Carroll O’Connor), his uncle Angelo (Robert Loggia), his best friend Megan (Bonnie Hunt) and her husband Joe (Jim Belushi), the Megan of Megan Wally (William Brouder), and their friends Emmett (Eddie Jones) and Sophie (Marianne Jones) Mullerleile). Even Sydney reacts in the same way with Grace as with Elizabeth, and Mel follows Grace around. Everything is fine, except that grace is too nervous to tell Bob that she had a heart transplant. She had told Megan that every time a guy will discover him, they think she is broken and that Bob is so wonderful for her, she is afraid of her reaction.

She finally decides to tell him, but before she could not, she finds the letter she had sent to her house. It was then that she realized the heart that she belonged to the late wife of Bob. In a panic, she leaves, but knows that she cannot keep secret forever.

Grace was never on a plane before and always wanted to go to Italy to paint. Marty bought her a plane ticket, and she decides that it is the right time not to hurt Bob more than she owes it. She has also never been able to cycle before, and when her kickstand breaks, Bob buys a new one. He presents herself to surprise her and she tells him that she leaves. When he asks why, she shows him the letter she had taken from her comments and explains that it was she who wrote it. Naturally, it’s a lot for Bob, and he leaves to collect his thoughts.

Grace leaves for Italy and left for two days before Bob turned to the restaurant in search of looking for it. Marty takes Bob outside and told him that he knew that the heart that Grace would have had to belong to someone special, and that perhaps the heart was supposed to be always with Bob.

Bob had said that his wife was missing, she will still miss, but he hurts me for grace. So he takes off for Italy after her, and when he finds her, he tells her that he loves her. She, in turn, puts her head on his chest so that he can hear his heart rate.

Bob and his team finish the habitat of Sydney and they dedicate it to Elizabeth. Grace and his family and friends are there to support. The film ends with a wedding, but not the one you might think. Sophie and Wally get married, and credits roll while showing Bob and Grace Dance.

If you are like me, you will cry throughout this film. At first, when Elizabeth dies, especially looking at Mel to wait for him, then when Grace speaks to Bob of the transplant. But don’t let it dissuade you; This film is also filled with laughter, especially Marty, Angelo, Wally and Emmett.

I don’t remember advertising for this film when it was released, and it’s a shame, because it’s really good and more people should know. It’s funny and sad and romantic and clumsy at the same time. If you are in Rom-Com, I really recommend it.
