At a time of remakes and video game remasters, some developers have taken variable measures to modernize older titles. Last year, Konami and the developer Bloober Team struck their first remake of “Silent Hill 2”, which was built from zero and gave it graphic and mechanical revisions to modernize the horror classic. The remakes like “The Last of Us Part 1” were almost identical to their original versions, which intrigued certain fans because the remaster PS4 was perfectly playable according to modern standards.
As a remake defeated by “Metal Gear Solid 3” of 2004, “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” of 2025 looks like a mixture of the two, although depositing towards the latter, but it has just enough modifications and new additions to justify its existence. With considerably improved visuals and a modern control scheme, “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” is the definitive way of living one of the greatest stealth games of all time.
The game took place in 1964 in the middle of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Our protagonist, Snake (David Hayter), must infiltrate the Soviet Union in order to save a scientist from Russian rocket named Sokolov. He does a fantastic job using real world events to create a riveting historical fictional framework.
There is a natural feeling of climbing when the snake also has to prevent the Soviet Union from deploying a fatal super-arme that could destroy the United States. As a result, history manages to attract you and keep you invested. At the beginning, his mentor, the boss (Lori Alan), also lacks the Soviet Union, which adds a personal touch to the trip of Snake and makes us understand more with him. These dynamics and motivations of characters raise an already intriguing historical drama in a masterful act of narration.
This game is not afraid of taking the “fiction” of historical fiction at its limits either. In addition to confronting the boss, Snake must also face superhuman monsters such as the Madman Bio-Electrical Improved Volgin (Neil Ross) and pain (Gregg Berger), which has the capacity to control hornets. They make eccentric antagonists and exhilarating boss fights that you do not expect in a furtive game apparently more anchored.
It is a wild and imaginative juxtaposition which makes that “Metal Gear” stands out among its other contemporaries of stealth games. For all those who played “Death Stranding” and his suite, you can see where the director Hideo Kojima of talent for names and eccentric capacities demonstrated when he created the “Metal Gear” series.
Speaking of characters, “Delta” reuses the original vocal lines of the 2004 game, and it is impressive to see how much the voice game has resisted even after two decades. The gruff representation of Hayter of the serpent completes the maternal tenderness of Alan as a boss. The quality of vocal action would not be out of regard today, and it is a testimony to the heritage of the original.
For a game created in 2004, the original had stealth gameplay mechanisms that were ahead of its time and created the bases of which many modern games are inspired. Although you have standard stealth playing elements such as stifling enemies, there are also light survival mechanisms. Snake’s endurance has an impact on its walking pace, its stability and its resistance to damage. He will have to catch and eat animals in the jungle to restore it. These mechanisms may not be revolutionary according to today’s standards, but there is a feeling of nostalgia and familiarity that made me move forward.
The unique stealth mechanic of the game, however, is the Camo index. You can exchange snake camouflage models at any time. The jungle field is filled with various foliage, rocks and water bodies, so it is important to blend. The Camo index shows how the snake fits into the entire environment in which it is currently and this has a radical impact if enemies can see it. He adds a strategic element to the stealth gameplay which keeps you constantly engaged with each enemy meeting.

The two aspects of “Delta” which received the biggest makeover of the original game are the graphics and the controls. All the characters, including Snake, The Boss and all the other bad guys and allies, seem to have suffered a lot of work to make them equally with modern visuals. The new lighting also makes the gaming lush jungle environments more vibrant than before.
However, “Delta” does not take full advantage of current consoles and PC power. This game is a literal recreation 1: 1 of the original, which means that the segments of the game area are too. For example, a fortress you visit called Grozynj Grad is divided into four different areas. When you travel between them using the doors, you will have to go through a loading screen, just like in the original game. Given how powerful modern material is now compared to PS2, these segments could have been transparent transparently into a large area. Instead, we are stuck with what was a by-product of material limitations on technology and up-to-date platforms.
Fortunately, “Delta” feels good to play due to a new control scheme called “new style” which reflects that of “Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain”. This allows you to run in a third -person vision in the shoulder as in modern games such as “Mafia: The Old Country” and “God of War Ragnarok”, as well as to spin the camera freely. The high -end and fixed camera of the original is also kept in the “inherited style” control diagram for those who wish to relive the authentic PS2 experience.
For fans who played the original, this new version will feel at home. Chronologically, this entry is a prequel, so those who have never played a “Metal Gear” game will not feel intimidated by the vast history of the franchise and can start with it. We do not know if we will never get a “Metal Gear Solid 6” since Kojima has long since left Konami and his eccentric idiosyncrasies would be difficult to reproduce, but in the meantime, “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” is a sufficient subsistence.
The publisher provided a review of this title. He launches on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X | S on August 29.
