Do not leave your day work

The title of this blog post is generally good advice – however, I chose to do the opposite. Yes, friends, after many years of office jobs, contract posts and corporate roles, I hang up my badge and proverbial entrance lanyard and I cut the cord. Am I retiring? Far from it.

I left my full-time role earlier this month so that I can focus on things that matter most to me. Namely, my books, my games, the museum and experiential writing and my family. I did not make this decision lightly, but rest assured that when I realized what I had to do, a feeling of calm tranquility threw me, and the path to come has become clear.

The moment in question

About two weeks after obtaining my secondary school diploma, my sponsors took me on a trip to Grand Cayman. I have already written on both here and here. We were accompanied by their son, whose tendency to get up very early in the morning gave him the nickname “rooster” for life. We have dive in scuba in this trip to some of the most beautiful waters in which I have ever been, especially around Devil’s Grotto. It was also the moment when I saw a barracuda path Too much close and staff, but that’s another story.

It is one of the most wonderful trips I have ever made, with three people I really liked. I remember the last hours of this trip, I sat under a Gazebo, fixing the shiny turquoise and purple of the northern sound. I didn’t want to leave, and I think that part of me has never done it.

Disney Treasure

I had always wanted to go back, but I could never find my way until recently. My family made a Disney cruise in the Caribbean, and one of our stops was in Grand Cayman. I was in another part of the island of the last time I failed there, but the sand to the ankles, the wind on my face, and the movement of the waves against the shore brought me when I was a young 18 year old freshly struck.

The sad fact is that the rooster died when I was at university, taken too early. I lost my godmother in 2020 and my godfather died almost a year ago at the time of this writing.

Now I am the only one who remains to worry about this trip. To a certain extent, it was my “Oak Tree” moment, but it was less a question of achieving the whole scope of time in a place of history, and more of understanding that I only have if of years to continue my dreams with the vigor and the passion they need.

Let’s just say that it has put things strongly to the point.

But how are you going to do this job?

But Matt, I hear you say: People do not leave their jobs! How are you going to pay your bills? How are you going to put gas in your car? Where are you going to get your protein, huh?!

First of all, thank you for your concern – it’s always appreciated. Second, I have been working towards this goal for some time now, trying to ensure that things have moved away and certain guarantees put in place before I can even consider making an honest test. All these things had started to line up after years of preparation, culminating quite recently. It only remained to evoke the desire to finally deviate, and to evoke it there, on this beach of Grand Cayman.

Drink, me, ears, yo ho!

So here we are. This is what I do now. Sector M Games has two current projects, with a third possible to follow. I decided to self-publish a series of books and news on which I have been working for some time now, while pursuing traditional publishing routes for other books that I have finished or that are currently in production.

There are also exciting independent projects that I have in the works of which I cannot quite speak, but there will be more about this as they develop. In addition, I will set up a sectoral newsletter to keep everyone in the loop on the latest information and projects. More importantly, I want to build the M sector as a community as science fiction, fantasy and play lovers can call them.

To this end, I need your help. I have a patarian that has been going on for some time, and I have just finished redesign on membership levels, so I strongly encourage you to check it here:

M Patreon sector

It is a small community for the moment, so if you want to enter the ground floor and support what I do, plan to join.

Aside Patreon, I also have two books and two game supplements. If you have not yet taken a copy, it would be of great help.

Books:

The rear mask (science fiction)

Strange Relations of sector M (Sci-Fi / Fantastic Anthology)

Game supplements:

The Artifier’s Guide to Magic Items (5th D & D Crafting Guide)

The Knights of Solamnia revisited (5th D&D for Dragonlance)

These four are only the beginning. He can take me for a while to run some of the new projects that I have in mind, especially those that I will have to build from zero, but it will be my goal. For those of you who already support this effort (and you know who you are), you have my sincere and eternal thanks.

For those of you who have not yet jumped on the train train (in strictly figurative sense), I hope you will verify what I have to offer and help me build towards the future. In that spirit, I hope to see you in the sector!

If you are worth, Valeo.
